Penwortham Environment Centre

The Penwortham Environment Education Centre is part of a national network of environmental education centres based at National Grid Transco substations and is run in partnership with the Wildlife Trust.

The Centre is dedicated to stimulating environmental and heritage education. Its 10 hectare site includes gardens, performance area, woodlands, wildflower meadows and an all-access sensory trail.

Indoors there is a well-equipped classroom, a reference library of environmental resources and an indoor experiential learning room.

Dedicated staff cater for both primary and secondary school pupils and activities help to meet a range of Key Stage criteria for the National Curriculum. Programmes can be tailored according to age, ability, special needs and students in higher education.

Children can even spend the day as a Viking in realistic longhouse.
