Rufford is a delightful village with picturesque black and white houses and is home to the famous Rufford Old Hall, one of National Trust’s most beautiful properties in the North West.

Behind the Hall runs the Rufford Branch of the Leeds Liverpool canal, a very attractive waterway with a towpath along most of its length providing an ideal way to see the gentle west lancashire countryside.  St Mary's and Fettler's Wharf Marinas sit on opposite sides of the canal providing added attractions for the general visitor, including tea rooms as well as a range of facilities for boaters.   The Ormskirk – Preston railway stops at the village.  Other facilities include two pubs and a petrol station.

The Wildlife Trust Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve one of the special attractions within the Ribble Coast and Wetlands is close by linked to the village and other small communities by public footpaths, and easy cycling.
